1. Who is eligible for this program?

Individuals aspiring to be a superintendent, and also superintendents who wish to hone their skills.

2. Are there any eligibility criteria for enrolling in the program?

As per DNV standards 3.301 Ships' Superintendent, September 2005, there are no prerequisites for enrolling in this program.

3. Do I have to present any documents for enrollment?

You do not have to submit any documents for enrolling into the program.

4. How is this e-Learning program better than a classroom program?

The e-Learning program allows you to work at your own pace right from the comfort of your home.

5. What are the benefits of taking the program?

This program prepares you to take up the role of a ship superintendent. It provides you with necessary management skills to supervise and support ship operations and maintenance from shore. In addition, completing the program will fully prepare you for DNV’s examination for ship superintendents. This program will also improve your employment opportunities.

7. What is the fee structure for the program?

The fee structure for the program is as follows:

  • Superintendent - General: 21 Courses - USD 3000
  • Superintendent - Marine: 06 Courses - USD 1000
  • Superintendent - Technical: 06 Courses - USD 1000

8. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept payment by credit cards, checks or bank drafts. Checks and demand drafts should be in favor of “Teledata Marine Systems Pte Ltd”. These should be handed over in person or sent by mail to:

9. Can I pay the course fee in any currency?

Presently, we accept payment in US dollars alone. Kindly approach your bankers for a procedure to remit Checks/DD in USD.

10. Who is responsible for my credit card security?

Credit card security is maintained by yourpay.com and the security of the web page is handled by a ‘Verisign’ secure socket layer.

11. How do I enroll for the program?

You can complete the online registration process by clicking the button against the respective program in the ‘Apply for program’ page. The ‘Apply for program’ button is located in the login page at the bottom of the center frame.

12. What is the system configuration and internet speed required to support the program?

A Pentium 4 PC with Internet Explorer 5.5, MS Office and Flash Player installed is sufficient. An internet connection with 64 KBPS is the minimum requirement. However, broadband internet connectivity will give you a better viewing experience.

13. How much time should I spend to study the program?

The program is self-paced, and spending an hour or two everyday would be ideal to complete the program in one year. There is a 2-year time limit to complete the program.

14. How do I access the courses in the program?

Once you have enrolled, you will receive an email notifying you of your login details. After you login, click on the ‘myLearning’ tab in the home page to access your courses.

15. Whom do I contact if I encounter problems while accessing the program?

16. Is my progress in the program assessed? If so, how is it done?

Yes, your progress is tracked by the in-built tracking system in the program. After you complete a topic, it will be reflected in your ‘myLearning’ page as a progress bar. Additionally, after each assessment, the results of the scheduled tests are provided in the assessment section for your perusal.

17. Will the students be provided with an e-mentor?

The program is designed in such a way that you can track your performance with the help of the progress bar of individual courses within the program and the results of all the scheduled tests attempted. However, you will be assigned an e-mentor, i.e. an instructor, should you need one.

18. How can I communicate with my e-mentor?

If you need an e-mentor, you will be provided with his email id. Else, you can mail the e-mentor for the respective course from the address book in the mail application.

19. Are there any bulletin boards?

There are discussion forums for every course, where you can post your queries and view the comments. These forums are also used to discuss any new incidents, trends or regulations.

20. Who prepares the subject matter content and approves the same?

Highly experienced maritime educators and maritime professionals work together to create these innovative courses. The program is vetted as per the rigorous professional standards set by DNV, and by industry experts.

21. Who are the industry experts assigned to review the program?

Professionals working for shipowners such as NYK (Japan) and Anglo-Eastern Ship Management (Hong Kong) review the program to ensure that it meets the needs of the shipping industry.

22. How is the competence standard developed?

DNV SeaSkill has set up Committees of Experts (COE) and Examination Committees (EC) across the world. The members of COE and EC have been drawn from the maritime industry, flag state administration, maritime academies and machinery manufacturers. The members ensure relevance of competence standards in terms of area of competence, depth, and adequacy.

23. Do we have practice tests before taking the final assessment?

Each course has a ‘Practice Test’ in the assessment section. On completion of the course, you can take this sample test to refresh your learning, and to prepare for your final assessment. This will help you assess your understanding of the course. On submission of the test, you will receive a complete feedback for the same. This test does not have any pass percentage.

24. How is the final assessment conducted?

To complete the program successfully, the student has to take a scheduled test for each course. You have to score at least 70% in order to pass a test. Each test consists of ‘multiple choice questions’ that have to be answered within two minutes.

25. How many attempts do I get to pass the final assessment?

You have a maximum of three attempts to pass the final tests, failing which you have to re-apply for the test through your e-mentor by paying an examination fee of $100 USD.

26. How will I be notified about the assessment statistics?

During the course, whenever an assessment is taken, you will be notified about the assessment statistics via email.

27. When and how will I receive the course completion certificate?

On completion of the program, you need to take a program completion assessment. You need to score 70% to pass the test. This test is conducted to evaluate your proficiency in the course. On successfully completing the assessment, a computer generated course completion certificate will be issued. Additionally, you will receive a printed certificate that will be sent to your postal address. View Sample.

28. How can I get the DNV Ship Superintendent certificate?

DNV will issue the Superintendent Certificate after you take their assessment.

29. How is the examination conducted?

The examination is conducted online with a high degree of security and assessed by DNV approved assessors. The examination will be in a ‘Multiple Choice Questionnaire’ format. The examination Question Bank is closely secured at DNV, Hovik, Norway.

30. What is DNV SeaSkill Certification for Ship’s Superintendents?

It contains relevant information for ship managers and candidates. We are pleased to offer services related to Testing and Certification of Ships’ Superintendents, based on globally accepted competence standards. These standards meet the industry needs.

31. Will I be given a certificate on completing the program/course?

On successfully completing the program, a program completion certificate will be issued by Teledata Marine Solutions. Certificates will not be issued for individual courses. Additionally, to enhance the quality of learning, every new incident in the industry that effects the operations is addressed by updating the same in the course content.

32. When and how often are the courses updated in the program?

Whenever there is a change in the DNV standard requirements, the courses in the program will be updated.

33. What do I do if I want to split the program and take it over a period of time? What do I do if I decide to sail in between the program and want to continue after returning?

You are required to finish the course within two years of enrollment. You are allowed to send a request for a temporary suspension from the program when you are either sailing or do not have internet access.

34. How do I send my feedback on the program?

The feedback option is provided in our website, which will be periodically triggered to obtain the feedback from the candidates. Additionally you can also send unscheduled feedback concerning any part of the program to your eCoach through the mail application provided within the program. Teledata solicits such feedback from the learners, and will address all the relevant issues to improve our services.
